Speech and Language Services

Services provided to students identified as a "person with a disability" (according to R340.1702 of the Revised Administrative Rules for Special Education), R340.1710 persons with a speech and language impairment, and their parents, residing in Eaton County that are identified through the Individualized Education Program process.

Key Components Include...

  • Participate in initial evaluations and three-year re-evaluations of students on the Autism Spectrum.
  • Complete individual assessments and recommendations for students referred for speech evaluations.
  • Develop service plans including IEP Goals and Objectives for individual students.
  • Provide speech and language therapy to students (individual and groups).
  • Provide consultation to students, parents, educational personnel, and others.
  • Assure that speech and language services are provided in accordance with the standards of practice established by the American Speech and Hearing Association and state and federal laws related to speech education.
  • Re-evaluate students to determine the need for continued service or if programs can be effectively managed by family, teacher, or student.
  • Assist in identifying and adapting appropriate assistive devices and curriculum materials for individual students.
  • Prepare appropriate documentation relative to the needs of students, parents, teachers, and others.
  • Attend and participate in meetings, in-service trainings, and professional development activities.
