Services provided to students identified as a "person with a disability" (according to R340.1702 of the Revised Administrative Rules for Special Education) who is identified through the Individualized Education Program process.

Provide consultation to students, parents, educational staff, physicians, etc. relating to physical therapy needs.
Evaluate new referrals on students suspected of having physical therapy needs.
Participate as a member on the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) process.
Develop and implement service plans, including IEP Goals and Objectives.
Assist in identifying, purchasing, and adapting assistive technology equipment in response to student needs.
Assist students in developing functional independence in school, home, and community.
Fitting students, making adjustments, and training students in the use and care of prosthetics, orthotics, and supportive devices such as crutches, walkers, wheel chairs, etc.
Prepare appropriate documentation relative to the needs of students, parents, educational staff, and others as needed.
Attend and participate in meetings, in-service trainings, and professional development activities.
Goals of intervention include the student's optimal freedom of movement within the school setting, management in the classroom and school with minimal assistance for personal needs, provision of a stable postural base to promote the student's attention focused on educational tasks and participation in school related activities.
Through addressing the above areas, physical therapists assist the student to remain in school on a regular basis and prepares the student for the most independent life possible.
