Meadowview News & Information

February 2011

Welcome Back – We are pleased to share that teacher Diana Chavez has returned from an extended medical leave.  It is wonderful having Diana back with us.  Thank you to Sue Ovreset for filling out while Mrs. Chavez was on leave.  Sue did a wonderful job working with staff and students.

Outings – Many of our classrooms had outings or CBR trips over the past few weeks.  The rooms had been slated to visit the mall and go out to eat before the holidays but inclement weather prevented them from leaving the building.  These outings are an important part of the educational programs at Meadowview.  They teach students how to interact appropriately in public, give students the opportunity to be a part of their community, and provide experiences that cannot be taught in the classroom.

Professional Development – January 17, 2011 the Meadowview staff came together for an all staff professional development day.  Our day began with Michelle O’Meara, Meadowview staff member, presenting a CPI refresher.  The staff learned about verbal de-escalation techniques and appropriate holds.  The afternoon was spent discussing curriculum and going over changes happening at the local and state levels.  Staff members shared how much they appreciated having both professional and support staff having the same staff development opportunity.

New programs at Meadowview – Meadowview is in the process of adding Skyward for attendance purposes and Excent Tera for IEP development.  Both programs will allow staff to have more efficient methods of tracking student attendance and progress on IEP goals.  We look forward to implementing these programs in the near future.
