Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities
Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act of 1986, Amended 1994 (Title IV)
This Act provides money to schools and communities for violence and substance abuse programming. Schools receive funding using a formula based on student count and Title I concentration.
As of July 1, 1998, all applicants must follow the Principles of Effectiveness:
- Base your programs on a thorough assessment of objective data about the drug and violence problems in the school and communities served.
- Design your activities to meet their measurable goals and objectives for drug and violence prevention.
- Design and implement your evidence-based programming that is based on research or evaluation that provides evidence that the strategies used prevent or reduce drug use, violence, or disruptive behavior among youth.
- Evaluate your programs periodically to assess your progress toward achieving your goals and objectives, and use your evaluation results to refine, improve, and strengthen your program, and to refine your goals and objectives as appropriate.
Eaton ISD serves the public and private schools and communities in Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham Counties (except Lansing Public Schools) that agree to participate in the consortium. Each participating school and district must prepare an annual plan that follows the Principles of Effectiveness. Workshops and technical assistance are provided.
