Project Overview 2009-10

Shaping Positive Lifestyles & Attitudes through School Health (SPLASH) is a Michigan Nutrition Network enhancement project that provides free health education curricula, training, and resources to teachers in schools with a free/reduced lunch count >50%. This project is federally funded with the dollars awarded based on the amount of state funds matched. The state matching funds are calculated based on time spent preparing for and teaching Michigan Model for Health® nutrition and physical activity lessons and the EPEC curriculum. There are three components to this project:

1. Classroom: participating teachers will implement the recently revised Michigan Model for Health® (link to our MM webpage) curriculum.

2. Physical Education: participating teachers will teach the nutrition-enhanced Exemplary Physical Education Curriculum (EPEC) (link to EPEC webpage).

3. Optional Out-of-Class Activities: school buildings with participating teachers will receive $5 per student to conduct additional supplemental nutrition education activities.
