Board of Education

The Board of Education exists to serve as a liaison agency between our Eaton County area constituent districts and the State Department of Education and to provide those programs and services requested by the constituent districts or mandated by the state.

The Board of Education is comprised of five members who are elected for six-year terms by representatives of Eaton ISD's constituent districts. Elections are held in June. Board meetings are held the third Wednesday of each month.

The Board meets monthly. Special meetings are called whenever necessary. A written notice of regular and special meetings will be posted at the administration building (1790 E Packard Hwy, Charlotte) at least 72 hours before the scheduled meeting time. The written notice will show the date, time, and place of each meeting. In emergencies, a meeting may be held with two hours notice.

All meetings are open to the public. In certain circumstances, Michigan law permits the Board to go into a closed session. Closed session may occur for such matters as discussing prospective gifts or donations, real-property acquisition, certain personnel matters including employee complaints, security matters, student discipline, or to consult with attorneys regarding pending litigation.

Board meetings are schedule on every third Wednesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. at the EISD Administration Building (1790 E Packard Hwy, Charlotte). Times, dates, and location may be adjusted by action of the Board.

The EISD Board has four major functions:

  1. To adopt bylaws and policies for the organization and operation of Eaton ISD.
  2. To consider the transfer of property from one constituent school district to another as allowed under the Michigan School Code.
  3. To select and employ a Superintendent who shall enforce the statutes of the State of Michigan, rules of the State Board of Education, and policies of the Eaton ISD Board.
  4. To assume jurisdiction over any dispute or issue arising within the Eaton ISD and concerning any matter in which authority has been vested in the Board by statute, rule, contract, or policy of the Board.
